Broomball European C'ships
We are European Club Champions 2011!
There is reason to celebrate - the BAD BOYS are the inaugural European Broomball Champions of club teams, the greatest success in our clubs history! For the first time, alternately to the World Championships which are held every two years, the European Broomball Championships for club teams took place. The event was held in Mittenwald, Germany, in the world famous Karwendel area. Participating teams were Germany (Bad Liebenzell), Switzerland (Lausanne) and the SHARKS from Leifers, as well as Austria, Welschnofen and Piné in the mixed category. The two games on the first day of the tournament were not our smoothest, especially the offense did not have its best day. We had a tough time putting balls in the opponent's goal. We won the first game against Bad Liebenzell with a score of 3-0, and had quite a battle against a tight defense and a responsive opposing goalie. Our goals were scored by Daniel (2) and Harry. Shortly thereafter we had a tough game against Lausanne, in which we managed to hold on to a 2-1 win. After a comforting 2-0 lead, with goals from Hippi and Harry Switzerland was able to cut the lead in half and pushed for the equalizer. Our goalie and the reliable defense were able to shut the door. With the two victories under our belt and a berth in the final secured we could afford to loose the third preliminary round game on Sunday against the Sharks. Martin was the lone scorer in a 1:3 defeat. On Sunday afternoon it was the Sharks again, who had some reinforcements from other Italian teams on their roster. The past three games left their mark on some of our players, so we had to buckle up and grind our teeth. Tactically very well set up by our coach Harry we survived a shorthanded situation in the first minute of the game, after a furious start by Harry. In the middle of the first frame a stick blow to Matthias Innerbichler was called and we went on the powerplay. Hannes Hilpold was then able to pick up a rebound and place the ball right under the crossbar for the 1-0 lead. Now the Sharks pressed for an equalizer, they also came close a few times but the chances were not compelling enough to beat our very alert goalie Christian Oberhollenzer. Also the defense certainly did their best to help. Thus passed the time until the Bad Boys had another powerplay in the dying minutes of the game. After a high sticking on Armin Leiter the latter was on hand to blast a shot from the blue line past friend and foe and high into the goal. Too bad that we will not see this magnificent player back on the ice this year, because he is not available the entire season. The Sharks were risking everything, took out the goalie for a sixth man. But Martin Platter could gain control of the ball and was able to cross the line, where he immediately aimed for the goal and he sure hit it for the 3-0 victory. At this point we also want to thank the friendly guest house Döring in Mittenwald.
